Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your first session is a conversation. We'll talk about what brought you to therapy, what you're hoping to work on, and any history that feels relevant. You don't need to come prepared with the right words or a clear plan. My job is to listen carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and help you feel comfortable. By the end, we'll have a sense of how to move forward together.
-
Most people who come to therapy aren't in crisis. They are navigating something that feels harder than it should, a relationship, a transition, a pattern they keep repeating, a weight they've been carrying alone. Therapy gives you space to make sense of it with someone trained to help. If you've been wondering whether to reach out, that wondering is usually worth a conversation.
-
Fit matters the most. You want someone both partners feel comfortable with, who is objective, and who has real experience working with couples, not just individuals. In a first session, pay attention to whether you both feel heard and whether the therapist can hold the room when things get difficult. If something feels off, it's okay to keep looking.
-
Therapy helps you understand what's driving the anxiety, not just manage the symptoms. You learn to notice your patterns, work with your nervous system instead of against it, and build practical tools for the moments anxiety shows up. Over time, the goal isn't to eliminate anxiety, it's to feel less controlled by it and more confident in your ability to respond.
-
Yes. Caregiver support is a specialized focus of my practice. Whether you're caring for a parent with dementia, a partner with a chronic illness, or a family member with complex needs, the emotional load is real, overwhelming and is often invisible to others. Therapy gives you a space that's about you, not the person you're caring for, so you can process what's happening, set sustainable boundaries, and protect your own wellbeing.
